The Veneers Process

Are your teeth discolored, chipped or showing uneven wear? Are you tired of hiding your smile, or wishing there were some way to correct these issues without resorting to dentures or dental implants? Well, if this sounds like you, there’s an option you may not have considered: veneers. Veneers are thin sheets of porcelain that are custom fit over the teeth to correct their shape, color and overall appearance. To see if you are a good candidate for veneers, schedule a consultation with Dr. George. If you’d like to know more about how veneers are attached to your teeth, keep reading.

Step 1: The EvaluationWhen you go in for veneers, your teeth will be examined to make sure they are healthy enough for veneers. If not, a treatment plan will be formed that will hopefully get your teeth ready for the procedure.

Step 2: Getting the Teeth ReadyOnce your teeth are in ideal health, they will be prepped for the veneers, which sometimes includes filing or polishing the teeth. Then measurements are taken and molds are made to send to the lab to create your custom veneers!

Step 3: Wait it OutOnce your teeth are measured, the measurements are sent to a lab, where your veneers are created. This process can take several weeks. Once your new veneers arrive, your appointment can be scheduled to have them applied.

Step 4: InstallationFinally, the veneers are attached to the teeth using a dental cement. Though the cement holds the veneers well, it can still come loose, and occasionally people lose a veneer. If this happens, don’t panic - call Dr. George and if it is not damaged, she may be able to reattach the veneer. That being said, veneers will not last forever, so take good care of them and expect to replace them in about 10 years.

Step 5: Enjoy Your SmileThis last step is pretty self-explanatory, but once your veneers are in place, go enjoy your beautiful smile - and make sure you follow the care instructions provided by Dr. George.
