Common Orthodontic Problems

Overjet

When your bite is out of alignment, the muscles surrounding your jaw, head and neck can be constantly strained. And you may not even be aware of it.

Open Bite

When your jaw is misaligned and not properly supported by your occlusion, it can be limited in its range of motion, and cause head and neck pain.

Underbite

Do you have a pain on the top of your head? Or do you have a sore jaw line or pain from your ear? It may be your head and neck alignment that is the cause.

Facial Growth Orthodontics

Did you know that more than 80 percent of our country's population has an underdeveloped upper jaw and suffers from midface deficiency? And that this significant rate of facial growth problems is much greater than those found in individuals living in remote areas not exposed to environmental pollutants, food preservatives and other outside factors that can interrupt facial growth? The outside factors can negatively affect the body - right down to your DNA.

It's not just that midface region we worry about; due to the body's strong will to have teeth meet when chewing, the lower jaw often also has to compensate for an undersized upper jaw - which frequently means it becomes underdeveloped, too.

Undersized or unbalanced jaws coupled with breathing conditions including mouth breathing, sleep disorders and narrow airways can constrain the proper development of the face, even when kids are supposed to be growing rapidly.

When growth is restrained or interrupted, jaw and breathing problems develop, facial growth is affected and patients are often left with an unbalanced appearance.

These factors can be overcome with Facial Growth Orthodontics.

Here's how: Facial Growth Orthodontics works through the use of appliances. These appliances, either fixed or removable, work to remodel midface and upper jaw growth by stimulating nerves in the palate. This nerve stimulation creates a microtrauma, which causes the body to form new bone and soft tissue, which in turn helps to restructure and remodel growth in the upper jaw and the mid-face/nasomaxillary complex.

In children, this nerve stimulation can completely correct the path of growth for the midface and upper jaw, allowing the face to form correctly.

When the top jaw reaches its proper size, the lower jaw follows suit and begins to functions correctly and comfortably.

Through Facial Growth Orthodontics, the jaws can reach harmony in both physiological appearance and function. So you can have a smile that is both beautiful and healthy, too!
