Facial Growth Orthodontic Appliances

Facial Growth Orthodontic appliances - both fixed and removable - work by putting pressure on the nasopalatine nerve in the palate. This pressure creates a microtrauma response, and subsequently, the development of new bone tissue as a cushion against the pressure.

The development of new bone tissue can help to restructure and remodel growth in the upper jaw and the mid-face/nasomaxillary complex.

When the top jaw reaches its proper size, the jaw functions correctly and comfortably.

Why Facial Growth Orthodontics?

Historically, jaw and bite issues such as crossbites, overbites and underbites required both surgery and orthodontic braces (in most cases both before and after surgery), but our Facial Growth Orthodontics allows you to skip surgery and having to wear braces for long periods. Instead, we use oral appliance therapy.

These appliances can help to physiologically remodel the jaw to address areas of growth deficiency in adults than can cause overcrowded teeth and problems with your smile. This orthodontic treatment helps the top jaw develop to a more natural size, which allows your lower jaw to move into a relaxed position for your bite.

We offer patients both Fixed Growth Guided Appliance (FGGA) and Removable Growth Guided Appliances (RGGA).

Choosing controlled arch orthodontics to improve your smile

If you could reverse time and reduce the signs of aging without having a face-lift, Botox or dermal fillers, would you? You can avoid invasive cosmetic treatments and the downtime associated with surgery by improving your appearance in a different way: with controlled arch orthodontics! Since controlled arch orthodontics addresses and corrects mid-face jaw formation and spacing issues, there is an added benefit over simply treating smile problems with cosmetic restoration. This benefit is a more youthful appearance and a fuller, broader smile.

Many patients who choose controlled arch orthodontics report benefits such as:

  • A fuller, broader smile
  • A long-lasting, more youthful appearance
  • The reduction of jowl and loose/sagging skin
  • More pleasing profile
  • Elimination of deep lower lip creases and overbites
